If I were Phoolan, I'd have died, says onscreen Bandit Queen Seema Biswas
Biswas played the lead role as Phoolan Devi in the film Bandit Queen released in 1996, a biographical action-adventure based on the life of dacoit-turned-politician. She was in the city to be part of the fourth Nirmal Pandey Smriti film festival, organized in memory of the actor Nirmal Pandey on his birth anniversary at Bhartendu Natya Academy.
Nirmal Pandey who passed away at the young age of 47 due to cardiac arrest had played the role of Vikram Mallah in the film. It was his as well as Biswas' first film.
As Thursday was also the birth anniversary of Phoolan Devi, Biswas said, "When I heard the real-life story of Phoolan Devi from her relatives, what all she suffered and how bravely she fought, I felt if I were in her place, I would have died."
She said it was sad that a brave woman like her was safe in the ravines but when she reached Parliament, she was killed.
