    CHANDIGARH: All is set for the 10th National Crafts Mela which will be organised from November 9-18 at Kalagram, Chandigarh. From special stall dedicated to Mahatma Gandhito stalls displaying a variety of handicrafts, handloom and cultural fabrics will be set up. Special performances by celebrities from Punjabi music industry like Hans Raj Hans, Satinder Sartaj, Jazzy B, and Lakhwinder Wadali will leave the audience mesmerised as the mela has a lot to offer to the residents.
    The mela is a joint venture of the Chandigarh administration and North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC).
    Saubhagya Vardhan, director, NZCC said, "The annual event provides a rare opportunity to the artists to display their creative work and potential to a cross section of people. It offers a richness of the handicrafts, handloom and our cultural heritage that makes this event unique."
    A total of 170 stalls have been constructed at the site to display spectacular work of artisans and craftsmen of Chandigarh and other states.     The set up is as dramatic as the multicultural streak which exists at Alliance Française. Behind a huge white wheel set up in the middle of the room is a woman playing with her own shadows. In between the paper cuttings and figures is a huge puppet of a kathakali dancer. The drama begins to unfold as Brigitte starts talking about her passion for the dance form.

    “My passion in puppetry has branched out of my love for contemporary dance,” she says. It was Brigitte’s love for understanding dance that got her acquainted with kathakali. “It was after a training session in France that I decided to come to India and learn kathakali in a better way,” she says. For any foreign blood in India, Delhi does tend to be a dry state.

    It was after her tryst there that she decided to move to Kerela and learn the ground work of the dance form. Trained under the aegis of Sadanam Balakrishnan, she does not deny the fact that she had a tough time adjusting to the nuances of kathakali. “I love the amalgamation of drama, dance and music.
