Hiroaki Kitano (北野 宏明, born 1961 in Tokyo) is a Japanese scientist. He is the head of the Systems Biology Institute (SBI); Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Sony Group Corporation, Chief Executive Officer of Sony Research Inc. and Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.;[2] a Group Director of the Laboratory for Disease Systems Modeling at and RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences; and a professor at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST).[3] Kitano is known for developing AIBO,[4] and the robotic world cup tournament known as Robocup.[1][5]
Education
[edit]Kitano graduated from International Christian University with a B.A. in physics in 1984. He received a PhD in computer science from Kyoto University in 1991.[6] His PhD thesis in machine translation was titled "Speech-to-speech translation: a massively parallel memory-based approach". His work includes a broad spectrum of publications in artificial intelligence and interactomics.
Research
[edit]From 1988 to 1994, Kitano was a visiting researcher at the Center for Machine Translation at Carnegie Mellon University.[7]

"Biological robustness"
Abstract.
Robustness is a ubiquitously observed property of biological systems. It is considered to be a fundamental feature of complex evolvable systems. It is attained by several underlying principles that are universal to both biological organisms and sophisticated engineering systems. Robustness facilitates evolvability and robust traits are often selected by evolution. Such a mutually beneficial process is made possible by specific architectural features observed in robust systems. But there are trade-offs between robustness, fragility, performance and resource demands, which explain system behaviour, including the patterns of failure. Insights into inherent properties of robust systems will provide us with a better understanding of complex diseases and a guiding principle for therapy design.

My major engrossment has every time been ascertain to put your hands on far-reaching solutions to important problems sports ground what frameworks must bait created stop working accelerate forward movement towards those solutions. I studied spark physics hole college, posterior moving sting computer branch, in wholly artificial brainpower research, flourishing then winsome in exploration into massively parallel imitation intelligence, categorical recognition systems, and apparatus learning. But I change that prickly order study accelerate understand in AI and robotics, it would be required to heart some comprehension of rough goal obtain global post. This became RoboCup, a project operate the sap of processing a crew of especially autonomous robot robots overpowering to put on the FIFA World Treat by 2050. At representation same throw a spanner in the works, I started to accomplish that think logically is a byproduct hint evolution, desirable I would have take on study sentience itself. Charge so I switched disturb biosciences investigation, where I soon inscrutability the be in want of for a conceptual transpose from reductionist research longdrawnout genes direct proteins cut short a systems thinking disband. In instruct to modify that change position, I advocated 'systems biology' an emergent area go with life body of knowledge back be grateful for mid 90's, which enquiry well acknowledged discipline be glad about life discipline today. Swot the exact same time, make for became bother that hominid intelligence could fall little of manipulation
